Guatemala City

Vi tok en liten svipptur til Guatemala city, og her besøkte vi Alicia og hennes familie. De viste oss rundt i byen, og inviterte oss heim på kaffe og dessert, som jeg ikke er sikker på hva heter. De viste oss også hva Guatemalere i Gaut City spiser til jul, nemlig tamalis. (mmmm! nam nam!)

Vi lærte om kulturen og om Guatemalere sin fantastiske gjestfrihet.

Vi smakte på Tamalis, som er mais,(likner på potetstappe) kjøtt og saus rullet inn i blader og kokt i 2 timer. Dette spiser de til blant annet jul. Svart Tamalis er med sjokoladesaus, (det har jeg lyst å smake, mmm sjokolade!).  Det var utrulig godt. Vi var rundt i byen og så Grand Plaza, katedralen, posthuset og andre bygg. Vi var ute og spaserte rundt i byen på trygge steder.

Guatemala city er ikke ansett for å være en trygg by, så vi fikk beskjed på hostelet om at vi måtte ikke ha med oss vesker ol. Bare gå med noen penger i lommen. Ikke ta med kamera ol. Derfor har vi ikke så mange bilder fra Guatemala City. Men byen sydet av liv og trafikk. I denne byen er det tryggere å kjøre bil, så alle kjører bil. Tror at de bilkøene vi klager over i Bergen ikke kan måle seg med disse køene på fire felts veier.. Og mye eksos, men det var en fin opplevelse, og det var utrolig kjekt å treffe Alicia og Manuel.

We took a trip to Guatemala City, where we visited Alicia and her family. They showed us around the city, and invited us to their home for coffee and desserts, I am not sure what it was called, but it was really good. They also showed us what Guatemalans eat for Christmas, Tamalis (Yummi!).

We learned about culture and the wonderful Guatemalans hospitality.

We tasted Tamalis, wich is made from corn, meat and sauce, wrapped in leaves, and boiled for 2 hours. This is typical for Christmas. Black Tamalis is with chocolate sauce (This is the one I want to taste, mm chocolate!).  Tamalis were really good. We went around the City, at the Grand Plaza, cathedral, post office building and other buildings and spots. We took a strole on safe places.

Guatemala City is not known to be a safe city, and at the hostel they told us not to bring a bag, only some money in the pocket. Leave the camera at the hostel. That is why we don’t have so many pictures from the City. But the city was full of life and traffic. In this city it is safer to take the car, so everybody has a car. I don’t think the queues we have in Bergen can be compared with these ones, on four lines of road… And lots of pollution, but it was a wonderful experience, and it was lovely to meet Alicia and Manuel, and their lovely children Alicia, Manuel and Carlito, and Alicias parents Carlos and Susy. We hope to meet them again I Norway soon.  Thank you for all your help and advices.

Vi sitter på restaurant og turistene spiser tamalis, mens de lokale spiser kake,
iskrem og drikker kaffe.

coffe and Ice cream.

Familien samlet, bortesett fra Manuel, (senior) som fremdeles er på arbeid,
fra venstre Marcelo, Toril, Manuel, Alicias mother Susy, Carlito, Alice,
Alicias Father Carlos and Alicia.

Her har du oss på hostelet vårt, Quetsalroo, med de hjelpsomme folka
Manuel og Moon. Dei viktige står sjølvsagt i midten.. Det Australske
flagget kommer av Manuels kjæreste som kommer fra Australia.

 Vi kan bruke bildet igjen, når vi faktisk reiser til Australia..
